One thing about intergalactic alien robots is they sometimes come in some wacky shapes and sizes—car, an 18-wheeler, a flying robot bird. This one bot is also a 9-year-old boy’s pineapple conure, according to Nationwide member Katherine R. “Lazerbeak is one of the bird Transformers from the Transformers movies,” she says. “We also have a bird named Starscream and a bird named Igor, which are also Transformers—as you can see, we’re big Transformers fans!”
Like her namesake character in the classic series, Lazerbeak isn’t above the occasional ambush. However, instead of scattering the evil aliens, she lovingly pecks at her family. “Lazerbeak likes to nip at people, making the name Lazerbeak very appropriate,” says Katherine. “She also likes to warn people when she’s getting nippy by doing a head bob, wing spread thing. When she does that, she’s going to use her Lazerbeak!” Of course, it’s not just her attacks that are noteworthy—the way Lazerbeak moves is a wacky transformation in itself. Katherine adds, “She also likes to hang upside down and make meowing noises.”
Katherine protects their family pets like alien robots protect humans. However, instead of using lasers, she uses a much safer option: Nationwide pet insurance. “Our birds are like family to us,” Katherine says. “We want to make sure they have full protection in case they were to get injured or sick.”
