American Cheese was found as a stray on the Blue Ridge Parkway by two hikers. “The hikers could not get her to come to close as she was very scared and skittish,” says Nationwide member and pet parent Morgan B. “They went back to their car to see if they had anything to lure her to safety, and there they found some American cheese slices from their lunch. Cheese—the dog—was immediately lured by the scent of the cheese and jumped right into the car. Because of the story, the Watauga Humane Society named her American Cheese—and we chose to keep it when we adopted her!”
Turns out, Morgan’s new pup had more connections to her name than just a cellophane-wrapped treat in a hiker’s pack. Morgan adds, “Her favorite toy is a hamburger that—of course—has a slice of American cheese on it! She carries it around with her from room to room, and even tries to bury it in the backyard.”
When it comes to getting care for their cheesy pup, Morgan didn’t want to wind up in a pickle. “We wanted to make sure our pets would be covered in the event of an accident and trust Nationwide with them.”
