Flash T. Trousers
When Conan Carpenter of New York City adopted his new basset hound from the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society in Upstate New York, he initially thought his dog was named Flash after Rosco P. Coltrane’s basset hound in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard. However, Conan quickly discovered that his new dog earned the moniker because he loves to run and to be first at everything.
While Flash was a perfect name for his new dog, Conan felt he looked like a show dog and garnered so much attention that he would indulge him even more by giving him two additional names. The first name addition was Tupelo, after a street in New Orleans. Tupelo was shortened to the initial T. when Flash was given the last name Trousers to add a funny spin to the rest of the name.
According to Conan, everyone has a reaction to Flash’s unique name. “They remember him everywhere we go,” revealed Conan. “The vet, the pet store, people know him on the street and he is often stopped to get his picture taken.”
Since adopting Flash T. Trousers three years ago, Conan has lived by three heartwarming credos:
- To share him with as many people as he can
- To allow him to be his doggy self (get smelly and run around off leash in nature)
- To have his health be the utmost priority. Conan continues to recommend pet insurance to fellow parents.
“Working with VPI has been a very easy process, and very useful when we go to see the vet,” said Conan. “Having pet insurance helps me make quality decisions about Flash’s health and allows me the opportunity to ask for that extra procedure knowing that I have pet insurance in tow.”
