February 2012

Welcome to 2012, a new year for you — and your pets! Just as you may depend on your own horoscope to advise you throughout the year, you may be seeking guidance on behalf of your pets to gain insight into your companions’ well being.

Your pets are influenced by their particular astrological signs just like you are; however, your pets are also greatly affected by your daily routines, behavior and attention.

So, while the ups and downs of global (and financial) events will undoubtedly affect your life, they will also strengthen the bond you share with your pets. This year, your pets will discover their role as a constant companion is an important one. As much as your pet depends on you, you may discover that you, in turn, will rely on your pet for comfort when necessary, and to share new adventures and life changes.

This year may mean a less material world but that doesn’t mean cats, dogs, fish, small and big domestic animals will go without exercise, training, vet visits and love. Use these pet predictions as an outlook into important issues for you and your pets.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 – Jan. 20)

Make sure to make time each day to give your pet some one-on-one attention or a stress-reducing activity. Sleepless nights can also lead up to stress-related health issues for your Capricorn pet, so ensure your critter is eating a healthy diet and getting some snooze time during the day. Tip: Exercise helps reduce stress. If you live in a cold climate, consider indoor activities to help your pet burn some energy.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 21 – Feb. 18)

February is National Pet Dental Awareness Month; consider this a great opportunity to score a deal at the vet clinic with a dental checkup for your Aquarius pet. During the colder months, Aquarius pets can become couch potatoes — don’t let lazy days prevent you from regularly screening your pet’s health. Never complainers, Aquarius pets tend to hide any aches and pains they may be feeling.

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 20)

Fate is smiling on your Pisces pet this month. Despite the colder weather, February will be a more productive month for your pet. Take time out of your own busy schedule to make sure that your pet is getting some quality time with you in order to help reduce any stress. A calming belly rub will do the trick and soothe your companion.

ARIES (Mar. 21 – Apr. 19)

Did you notice a change in behavior last month in your Aries pet? Take the time to carefully assess the situation, a health issue may be lurking that has thus far gone unnoticed. If your Aries pet receives a clean bill of health, check around the house for any oddities such as a worn-out, lumpy pet bed, an overused litter box or drafty spots. Creature comforts go a long way to making sure your pet is at ease.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20)

January was a hectic month for your family — and your Taurus pet. A rest from all the activities will go a long way to refreshing your pet in February. Enjoy casual walks in the neighborhood or dog park, if possible (dog owners) or lazier days at home (cats will approve). Reduce the amount of social interaction this month so your companion has a chance to recover and rejuvenate.

GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)

A recent emotional situation may have taken a toll on your Gemini pet. This can adversely affect your pet’s health. Many vet clinics offer annual health and dental checkup specials at the beginning of the year so consider taking in your Gemini pet for an evaluation. Also, how about a spa day at home for your critter? Massages have lasting benefits for pets, too, and help to reduce anxiety.

CANCER (June 22 – July 22)

If there is a change a foot at home, make sure your Cancer pet has a safe place to hang out, whether it be in an undisturbed part of the house or at a friend’s home. For dogs, a daycare facility may be a nice break in routine — and an opportunity to make new friends and boost your critter’s esteem.

LEO (July 23 – Aug. 23)

Are there new people in your pet’s life? If you are sensing tension due to a change, take small steps with your Leo pet, who is used to being the center of attention and is more sensitive than you may realize. Take the time to give your pet some TLC and boost his or her ego just enough to put a smile back on that furry face.

VIRGO (Aug. 24 – Sept. 22)

A hectic environment post-holidays can make your Virgo pet a nervous wreck. Remember: Virgo pets are goal-oriented and are always looking for something to do; they don’t realize that they are juggling a full load. Slow things down a little bit at home; a simple activity like a walk or checking out a new toy will please without adding additional stress.

LIBRA (Sept. 23 – Oct. 23)

Your Libra pet may appear to be mellow, but we know how well they can conceal their true feelings. The winter blues can make for growing frustration and boredom. Keep your pet preoccupied with small “projects” such as a new toy to watch after or tagging along on an errand, if possible. Watch out if your pet ventures to the garage: bored pets can also get into trouble, such as tasting the good-smelling but deadly antifreeze that’s lingering on the ground.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24 – Nov. 22)

Scorpio pets can be social butterflies, always eager to meet someone new. Have you considered taking your pet to get a license in pet therapy? This could be a great winter activity as well. Otherwise, look into other pet-friendly community activities your critter could possibly become involved in. An occasional daycare outing would thrill your Scorpio dog. Keep your pet’s spirited attitude high with fun-filled activities that will deligh.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23 – Dec. 21)

Sagittarius pets can fall prey to the winter blues. Avoid any seasonal depression with plenty of ear and belly rubs and bring home a new pet toy to entertain your companion and bring him or her out of that cabin fever funk. A little TLC goes a long way.
