VPI’s Fifth Annual Pet Cancer Awareness Month
A Coast-to-Coast Education and Fund-Raising Effort
Veterinary Pet Insurance raises its Pet Cancer Awareness outreach to an unprecedented level in 2009. This year’s fifth consecutive Pet Cancer Awareness Month is not only highlighted by an aggressive media relations push emphasizing pet cancer education, but will be supported by two grand philanthropic events in both California and New York. All monies raised by VPI during Pet Cancer Awareness Month will be donated to the Animal Cancer Foundation (ACF), a non-profit organization that strives to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer in pets and people.
The East Coast VPI K9K Pet Cancer Awareness Walk – October 24, 2009
Due to the overwhelming success of the first two West Coast K9K events, this year VPI extended its annual philanthropic walk to New York — Brooklyn, to be exact. Hundreds of passionate pet lovers gathered at Cadman Plaza Park in Downtown Brooklyn on Oct. 24 to raise money for the ACF. The picture-perfect 4-kilometer walk took both walkers and their dogs across the historic Brooklyn Bridge, treating participants to a breathtaking view of New York’s landmarks. The West Coast VPI K9K Pet Cancer Awareness Walk – Nov. 14, 2009
Last year’s west coast K9K was hosted in beautiful Long Beach, California and resulted in a marvelous turnout of more than 500 local pet owners and their accompanying canines. The 3rd annual 3-kilometer walk will again take place in Long Beach, along an ocean side trail that carries participants and their dogs from the Catalina Landing through tourist favorite Shoreline Village. California residents are encouraged to register today; space is also limited for this walk, and those signing up by Nov. 1 enjoy a registration discount. Sign up for the West Coast K9K.
Show Your Support – Put a Collar on Pet Cancer!
Nearly 30,000 canine and feline cancer-related claims were filed with VPI in 2008, an increase of about 5,000 claims compared to the prior year. Such a growth indicates the importance of routine veterinarian visits to monitor pets for early signs of the disease. This year’s National Pet Cancer Awareness Month is VPI’s fifth campaign since the company launched the initiative in 2005. The educational endeavor has sparked increased pet cancer awareness and philanthropy among America’s pet owners.
VPI policyholders and concerned pet owners everywhere are encouraged to contribute donations through the purchase of a VPI limited-edition Pet Cancer Awareness dog collar. These handsome collars, adorned with the Cancer Society’s signature ribbon, are available in four different sizes. All sales profits go directly to the Animal Cancer Foundation.
