What's In Store for Your Pet:
November 2009

Welcome to 2009, a year that promises both humans and companion animals will spend more time at home enjoying the simple life—and all the good things Mother Nature brings. Staying close to friends, pet pals and family will also be the trend in the New Year.

The six eclipses (two solar and four lunar) will influence each of the 12 Sun signs of all critters, big and small—mind, body, and spirit. The ups and downs of this year’s international economic shake-up, both global cooling and warming, and political changes around the world, continue to strengthen the animal-human bond.

This year, pets will discover their role will be to offer comfort and calming more than usual. In 2009, extreme weather will play a bigger part in some pets’ lives throughout the four seasons. And yes, this year may mean a less material world for four-leggers and two-leggers—but that doesn’t mean cats, dogs, birds, fish, and small and large domestic animals will go without exercise, necessary veterinary visits and love.

So, animal friends—domestic and wild—welcome the New Year’s ups and downs and calm times. Simply put, challenging times will pass on the upside; this year’s uncertainty will enhance your human-animal connection. Note: your amazing unconditional love is more important than ever now as humans cope with a planet in transition. Stay cool.

ARIES (Mar. 21 – Apr. 19)

Don't let the onset of chilly weather stop you from exercising your Aries pet this month. Weight gain during the holiday months can be detrimental to your pet's health. Gemini symbol

GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)

It's all about nesting this month as Gemini pets adjust to the cooler temperatures and prefer to rest languidly on the couch or on a favorite window ledge. Near the 26th, their attention will shift to family matters as activity increases at home. In the meantime, encourage Gemini pets to stay calm and relaxed between the 8th and the 15th, while their solar houses are shifting. A soft bed placed in an out-of-the-way nook will provide solace to your pet.

CANCER (June 22 – July 22)

Change is afoot for Cancer pets this November. Perhaps a family vacation, a move to a new home or a new pet companion around the 9th? With the holidays approaching, take therapeutic measures to ensure your pet's emotional stability: plenty of one-on-one time and an extra special rub at least once a day.

LEO (July 23 – Aug. 23)

Leo symbol

Leo pets may seem a bit precocious this month. Pet owners: be wary of a sassy attitude. Chalk it up to a bit of restlessness, the change in temperature and possible lack of sleep. Tame your pet's behavior with the best remedy while holiday plans begin to take form: activity, and lots of it. A tired pet is a happy, healthy pet.

Sagitarius symbol

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23 – Dec. 21)

Once your Sagittarius pet sets his sights on something (whether it be your socks or that giggly-sounding toy at the pet store), he doesn't like to give it up. Stop being too flexible with your pet: it's time he learns some boundaries. Either join a group obedience class at a training facility or local pet store, or spend 20 minutes a day at home training your pet to obey you – the alpha pack leader.
