Mr. Meowgi
Some pet owners take days, even weeks, to come up with the perfect name for their newest addition. For Katie Crook and her husband, inspiration struck immediately. “My husband started calling him ‘Mr. Meowgi’ as soon as we brought him home,” said Katie. “We considered other names, like Chairman Meow-Meow, but nothing seemed to fit quite as well.”
Although Mr. Meowgi has never given the Crooks a karate lesson, he always seemed to exhibit human characteristics. According to Katie, Mr. Meowgi is quite fond of people food, especially waffles, and he sleeps on his back with his feet in the air. “He has such a unique personality, nobody ever forgets him,” said Katie. “If we go out of town and have to leave him at the boarding kennel, the staff always seems to remember Mr. Meowgi.”
After one trip to the boarding kennel, however, Mr. Meowgi came home with upper respiratory congestion. Katie took him to their veterinarian’s office and learned that he had caught a slight cold. Although Katie was relieved his condition wasn’t serious, she also realized how important Mr. Meowgi is to her. “He’s a part of my family,” said Katie. “When I realized that the cost of insurance was less than the amount of money my husband and I would spend on two drinks at a bar, I was more than willing to sacrifice that for my cat to make sure that he’s safe and well taken care of.”
