We know it's disappointing that we can't cover every condition for every pet. Believe us, as pet lovers ourselves, we wish that weren't the case. But to keep our policies affordable, there are some things we're just not able to cover.
pre-existing conditions
A pre-existing condition is basically any illness or injury that your pet had before coverage started, even if you didn't know your pet had it. The good news is, not all pre-existing conditions are forever. If you have medical records from your vet showing that your pet's condition has been cured for at least six months, you may be able to get it covered.
congenital disorders or developmental defects
Congenital disorders are considered to be pre-existing conditions. Congenital disorders are medical conditions that existed at the time of your pet's birth. Developmental defects are problems that come up because of faulty development. Unfortunately, we can't cover these things—whether they're visible or not.
hereditary disorders
Hereditary disorders are problems that get passed down from your pet's parent. Like congenital and developmental problems, whether the hereditary disorder is visible or not, we can't cover it on most of our plans.

cruciate ligament injuries within first 12 months of coverage
That might sound like a mouthful, but it just means that if your pet has an injury to the cruciate ligament or meniscus (those are parts of the knee) within the first year that you're insured, it won't be covered. If the injury happens after your first year, no problem—we've got it covered.
