Lola’s Sticky Situation
Lola’s Emergency Survival Story
A few months after insuring Lola, she got into my purse and ate six pieces of gum. I had heard that certain gums contained sweeteners that are toxic to pets, so I called poison control and was told that Lola had ingested Xylitol, a sweetener that can be fatal.
I immediately took Lola to the vet, where she remained on an IV in emergency care overnight.
For two weeks she took pills for her liver while I monitored her for intestinal blockage. Lola recovered, and I definitely learned my lesson. I want other pet owners to know how to avoid an accident like mine and to know that VPI was there to help when Lola and I needed it most.

*Veterinary fees vary state to state, per your veterinarian’s discretion.
**The benefit allowance amount replenishes with each new incident or with each new annual policy renewal, depending on the policy type selected. An incident is a new condition that causes you to consult a veterinarian. Chronic or ongoing conditions, such as allergic dermatitis, are considered to be one incident no matter how many times a veterinarian is consulted.
†VPI pays 90% of covered veterinary expenses up to the benefit schedule allowance, or 90% of your covered invoice amount, whichever is less, minus your $50 per-incident deductible.
