Diego Springs Back
Diego's Emergency Survival Story
In October 2007, our four and a half-year-old daschund Diego slipped a disc in his back while jumping from our bed. He was treated with steroids and ultimately regained strength in his hind legs.
Unfortunately, six months later, after much restricted activity, Diego slipped another disc, this time completely paralyzing his back legs. He could not walk. After rushing him to our local veterinarian, Diego was taken to Cornell University Animal Hospital, two and a half hours away, for further treatment. We were told he would need immediate back surgery.
After surgery, a five-day-stay at the hospital and thousands of dollars later, Diego gained full recovery in his back legs—he was back to normal. Because Diego was covered under his VPI policy, his medical bills were not a financial burden. Thank you, VPI!

*Veterinary fees vary state to state, per your veterinarian’s discretion.
**The benefit allowance amount replenishes with each new incident or with each new annual policy renewal, depending on the policy type selected. An incident is a new condition that causes you to consult a veterinarian. Chronic or ongoing conditions, such as allergic dermatitis, are considered to be one incident no matter how many times a veterinarian is consulted.
†VPI pays 90% of covered veterinary expenses up to the benefit schedule allowance, or 90% of your covered invoice amount, whichever is less, minus your $50 per-incident deductible.
